Culture Night(s)

Due to my lack of preparation culture night turned into culture nights. The first night Nate surprised me with beef wellington! It was delicious and a special treat to have the night off. He also prepared a little slide show of photographs of London. His third assignment was language, he compiled a list of English sayings. Here are some of our favorites: And Bob's your uncle (and that's all there is to it), Donkey's years (ages: "I haven't seen you in donkey's years"), honking (throwing up), tickety-boo (going well).
My assignments were music, architecture/ structures/ landforms,  and history/ geography. For music I was required to share the national anthem of the host country- God Save the Queen, which surprisingly sounded familiar. The tune as it turns out is the same as My Country 'Tis of Thee. We had the giggles as we listened to the song, is it really fair for us to steal their national anthem and make a patriotic song? I then shared the song "London Bridge IS Falling Down" not "London Bridges Falling Down". I have been singing that song wrong my whole life, sure it sounds the same but the meaning is entirely different. I was imagining multiple bridges but in reality just one bridge is falling down. It makes so much more sense now. I ended with, of course, the Beatles. For architecture etc. we both drew from a hat and had to recreate a structure with tin foil. Nate got Big Ben and I selected Stonehenge, photos above. The history/ geography lesson was tricky mostly just for me. Nate already understood the whole system so I was teaching myself. Culture nights were a success :)
