Alumni 5k Fun Run

This Saturday we all ran in the Alumni 5k, I'm Alumni! Amy, Holden and I ran the whole thing! Huge accomplishment for all three of us especially because of the hill. It was fun to do it all together and run around campus.

Bike Ride and Stroll up Hobble Creek

Dawn Anne and I took turns on the bike and walking with baby Holden. The Fall colors were so beautiful! I love Fall! The weather was perfect and leaves were starting to cover the trail. We even enjoyed a freshly picked apple at the end of our ride :)

This is one of Holden's favorite games. Daddy puts a phone or remote or toy penguin in his mouth and spits it out. But it is only funny when daddy does it. I tried right after Nate and Holden just stared at me like I was crazy, it was so funny.

Holden Update

Jumpity Jump
One of Holden's daily activities is jumping in the new jumper Grandma got. He caught on pretty quick saving our arms from his almost constant need of movement.

Piano Man

Holden also enjoys piano time. He is getting really good with his hands, he likes his touch and feel books and grabbing objects. And his favorite activity is drooling and chewing on his fingers.

Bzzz

Our second annual honey harvest was a few weeks ago. Brian found a deal on a huge honey extractor, with the capacity to hold 45 frames. With help from friends and family the process went smoothly as we applied a few lessons learned from last year. Here are a few pictures.

Wrapping up the Olympics

We did finish our family Olympics if you were wondering. We wrestled, Nathan kindly let it go to three rounds when he finally pinned me. I did however get a "grand amplitude hold" so major points there. (okay not really but it sounded cool). Table Tennis, yeah Nate won that too. No need for scores. Archery....Nate won! He hit the pillow three times and one of my arrows flew past the target, the others "fell" a little short. Final medal count Nate: 5 gold, 1 silver; Mindy: 1 gold, 5 silver.

Culture Night(s)

Due to my lack of preparation culture night turned into culture nights. The first night Nate surprised me with beef wellington! It was delicious and a special treat to have the night off. He also prepared a little slide show of photographs of London. His third assignment was language, he compiled a list of English sayings. Here are some of our favorites: And Bob's your uncle (and that's all there is to it), Donkey's years (ages: "I haven't seen you in donkey's years"), honking (throwing up), tickety-boo (going well).
My assignments were music, architecture/ structures/ landforms,  and history/ geography. For music I was required to share the national anthem of the host country- God Save the Queen, which surprisingly sounded familiar. The tune as it turns out is the same as My Country 'Tis of Thee. We had the giggles as we listened to the song, is it really fair for us to steal their national anthem and make a patriotic song? I then shared the song "London Bridge IS Falling Down" not "London Bridges Falling Down". I have been singing that song wrong my whole life, sure it sounds the same but the meaning is entirely different. I was imagining multiple bridges but in reality just one bridge is falling down. It makes so much more sense now. I ended with, of course, the Beatles. For architecture etc. we both drew from a hat and had to recreate a structure with tin foil. Nate got Big Ben and I selected Stonehenge, photos above. The history/ geography lesson was tricky mostly just for me. Nate already understood the whole system so I was teaching myself. Culture nights were a success :)
